Police Officer charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm and assault

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) charged another member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) with inflicting grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Constable Jerome Graham was arrested, charged and placed before the Manchester Resident Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.

The allegations are that on April 3, 2014 the Constable Graham stopped the complainant while he was operating his taxi along Manchester Road (in the town of Mandeville) and he complied with the request. While the complainant was retrieving his documents there was a verbal exchange and a tussle subsequently ensued between the parties after the concerned officer attacked the complainant. The complaint was subsequently arrested and was escorted to the police station (on foot). While being escorted the complainant was again attacked by Cons. Graham and received severe head injuries and is unable to recall the incident. However onlookers provided statements to the Commission.

Court Results
The matter was heard by His Honour Dale Staple in the Manchester Resident Magistrates' Court. The accused was represented by Mr. Dwight Reese.

The accused was offered bail on the following terms: $300,000 with one to three sureties, he is to report to the Mandeville Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between 6am to 6pm, he was also required to surrender his travel documents and a fingerprint order made.

The matter is set for mention on June 3, 2015.
