CIAT Secretariat delegation visits Jamaica

The Inter-American Centre of Tax Administrations (CIAT) is in the island for a two-day institutional visitwith Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ), from May 18-19, 2015. During the visit the CIAT Secretariat team will meet TAJ officials  and key with be providing technical support to TAJ in the areas of compliance focusing on Risk Identification and Assessment. The visit forms part of the improvement and modernization of TAJ’s compliance thrust as it seeks to improve the overall collections and compliance.

The CIAT secretarial delegation was specifically asked to focus on operational areas, looking at the technicalities of developing industry specific risk criteria for the selection of audit cases as it relates to the Large Taxpayer Office. The two (2) member delegation includes Mr. Marcio F. Verdi, Executive Secretaryand Mr. Francisco Beneir, Director Institutional Management. This area of focus is critical as the tax authority continues to improve its audit outcomes by, utilizing a risked based approach.

The delegation will also participate in working meetings with TAJ team members from the operational areas to include the Large Taxpayer Office (LTO), Programmes Unit and Risk Management operations.  Additionally, the CIAT team will be visiting the St Andrew Revenue Service Centre (RSC) to better inform their in-depth look for the technical assistance that these areas require for future visits. CIAT’s support coincides with the overall implementation and roll out of the National Compliance Plan (NCP), which forms a key element of the administration’s approach to efficient, effective risk based tax administration.
