Members of the management and staff of ICD Group Holdings Limited and its subsidiaries joined forces today (May 25) to the enact the theme for Labour Day 2015 ‘Labour for love: nurturing spaces for children’ by renovating and upgrading Parade Park, a children’s playground located at the corner of Harbour Street and Gold Street in Downtown Kingston.

“The ICD Group Labour Day initiative saw repairs to the park’s perimeter fencing, the painting of play equipment, installation of gates and benches, as well as the erection of additional swings and play structures using recycled materials,” Judy Bruce, ICD’s Group Human Resources Director, explained.

“We also erected a new backboard and net for the basketball courts, pruned trees, and installed waste disposal receptacles, ” she added. Approximately 60 employees of the ICD Group along with members of the community participated in the exercise.

The Group is comprised of West Indies Home Contractors Limited (WIHCON), WIHCON Properties Limited (WPL), British Caribbean Insurance Company (BCIC), Advantage Communications Inc. (ACI), CGM Gallagher, Gustazos, Youth Upliftment Through Employment (YUTE) and MulitCare Foundation.

Mrs. Bruce pointed out that the park was first developed several years ago by WIHCON Properties on property owned by ICD, and has served thousands of children of Parade Gardens, otherwise known as ‘SouthSide’ and its surrounding communities. It is part of a section of Harbour Street, neighbouring the ICD Group headquarters and other subsidiary companies.

“Children can be found every afternoon playing on the swings and congregating in the park. Some of the play equipment required refurbishing and so we decided to double our efforts for Labour Day to provide an upgraded park that is a safer and healthier environment for the children of the community,” Mrs. Bruce concluded.

Peter Melhado, President and Chief Executive Officer of ICD Group Holdings Limited, stated that the Labour Day Project is directly in line with the national theme, and was grounded in the ICD philosophy of “Leading Change…Making a Difference.” He explained that while individual companies have long undertaken separate corporate social responsibility initiatives, the Group is embarking on a more collaborative approach, combining its efforts to create more meaningful and sustainable impact at the community level.

Mr. Melhado reiterated that historically, much of the ICD Group’s businesses and energies have been geared toward positively impacting the people of Jamaica. “Labour Day provides a wonderful opportunity for our teams to tangibly demonstrate the ICD Group values of Passion, Excellence, Integrity, and Innovation, he said.
