Minister Hylton’s negligence cannot be overlooked says G2K

Generation 2000 (G2K), the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party, today expressed grave concern over what it calls a gross mismanagement of Minister Anthony Hylton's handling of the logistic hub project. Noting that the organizations views are in light of the findings of the Gordon Shirley led committee that was tasked with review of the proposed contractor and financier for the development of the logistics hub, Krauck Systems and Anchor Finance Group, G2K called on the Minister to disclose all pertinent information to the public immediately .

Generation 2000 holds firmly the belief that the  logistics hub has the potential to provide a long-term platform for growth in all areas of the Jamaican economy, an impact that could be felt by all firms and individuals throughout the nation.  With the Jamaican economy rerecording anemic growth, unprecedented levels of unemployment and a rise in poverty, the successful implementation of the logistics hub project has become a matter of urgency.

“The country is stretched incredibly thin and simply cannot afford to kick the can further down the road. The logistics hub is far too important of a project to have languishing for the sake of a nonperforming Minister,” said Matthew Samuda – President of G2K

The organization further argued that following the announcement that an entity was willing to invest close to US$5 Billion for the development of the local logistics hub, the project has been heavily shrouded in secrecy. "The due diligence with regards to the legitimacy of the investor should have been carried out long before the grand announcement was made and the MOU signed, as opposed to appointing a review committee after the fact." continued Samuda.

“The lack of transparency and disregard for due diligence afforded Minister Hylton ample room to gamble with the logistics hub project, and by extension gamble with the future of the Jamaican people,” said Stephen Edwards – Vice President of G2K

G2K is of the view that the seemingly lackadaisical approach by Minister Anthony Hylton with the  project as evidenced by the prevailing fiasco warrants the intervention of the Prime Minister. The organization is calling for:

1.       The findings of the review committee on the legitimacy of Krauck Systems and Anchor Finance Group, be immediately disclosed to the public.
2.      The Prime Minister to remove this important project from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and take full responsibility for its implementation.
