Diesel oil leak into storm drain near the Kingston Harbour

Digicel Jamaica | 2015-06-16 00:00:00

Digicel is aware that there was an oil leak at its downtown headquarters this morning, where a small amount of diesel oil was leaked into a storm drain near the Kingston Harbour. The team proactively alerted the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) as well as National Environmental Planning Agency (NEPA), who in turn notified the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guards and other relevant Agencies.

While we have not seen signs of leakage into the Harbour, we are awaiting feedback from the Agencies based on their investigations. In the meantime, Digicel is actively working with all the relevant Agencies to remove and dispose of the leaked fuel from the drain in the shortest possible time.

Digicel takes very seriously our commitment to the environment, as such, we are taking all the necessary steps to prevent further recurrence.
