Following the introduction of Number Portability, telecommunications and value leader in Jamaica, Digicel, has reported that more than 1,200 mobile customers have ported in to its network over the past 48 hours.

On Friday, June 26, Digicel introduced three offers to prepaid and postpaid mobile users which gives them free smartphones, rebates, data plan and free credit for a year.

Since then, scores of customers could be seen lining up outside its dealer stores, eager to switch to start enjoying better value.

“We are happy that Number Portability is here so mobile users and corporate customers can keep their numbers and move to Digicel and start enjoying better value, world class customer service and the fastest and most reliable 4G mobile network,” said the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Sean Latty.

“The response to these offers has been overwhelming and very positive. The benefit of Number Portability is so that customers can have choice and benefit from real value – two key pillars that Digicel has consistently delivered over the past 14 years. What we are seeing therefore is that customers are exercising their right to choose value from Jamaica’s biggest family and we are happy to welcome them,” closed Latty.

In one of the two prepaid offers, mobile users who go to any Digicel store islandwide and port to its network on Friday June 26 and 27 received a free SIM card and $500 credit for a year; while in the second offer, customers also received a free Avvio 750 smartphone when they visited select stores and port to the Digicel network.

Meanwhile, postpaid customers who port to Digicel and activate any of the company’s SMART plans over the same period, received plus a free 2-month subscription and 10% rebate along with either a free Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 or a Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini.
