Digicel | 2012-04-23 11:33:00

Monday, April 23, 2012, Kingston, Jamaica: Digicel is advising customers to be on the alert for scammers who are contacting customers purporting that they have won cash and prizes in a promotion.

It has been reported that scam artists have been sending text messages to customers from ‘555’ under the pretence of being affiliated with Digicel and telling customers that they have won 850 GBP (British Pound Sterling) as part of a promotion. The email address that shows in these text messages is worldmobileeclaims@yahoo.com.

Digicel is in no way affiliated with these fraudulent text messages and promotions. According to Conor Looney, Director of Marketing for Digicel Jamaica, “We are extremely disappointed that persons would want to target the public in this manner. Digicel under no circumstances is affiliated with these text messages.

Persons should always take precautions before giving out personal information or complying with requests of this nature and so we are imploring the public to be extremely cautious about such calls and text messages”.
