Minister of Youth and Culture, the Honourable Lisa Hanna MP says Tyrone Blake has made an important contribution to Jamaica’s music industry and his passing is a great loss for the entertainment and cultural life of the nation.
In a statement today (Monday April 23), Minister Hanna said she is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Mr. Blake, who was one of the four brothers responsible for Merritone Music, the well known sound system which consistently promoted authentic Jamaican and other music forms to a dedicated audience of music lovers for decades.
She noted that Tyrone Blake was known for, among other things, being the lead administrator behind the running of the legendary Turntable Club that was an integral part of Jamaica’s music and entertainment scene for many years.
“Tyrone departed suddenly but he will live on in our collective national memory as someone who, along with his brothers, Winston, Monty and Trevor kept the iconic Merritone Music machine going for decades,” Minister Hanna said.
“He will be sadly missed by many. I extend sincere condolences to Winston, Monty, Trevor and the rest of his family, friends and associates.”
