LIME Foundation stages 2nd Annual Blood Drive

The LIME Foundation is again responding to a critical need of the health sector – blood shortage. The Foundation will host yet another blood drive as it aims to assist the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) close the gap on the demand for the precious liquid.

Scheduled for July 29, the Drive will be held at the LIME Corporate headquarters on Half Way Tree Road from 9:00am to 4:00pm.

“We have issued an urgent call for persons to come in and to give the ‘gift of life’. Our staff, our contractors and our customers are all invited to join in the cause. Many persons may not realize that the life they save could be their own”, Errol Miller, Executive Chairman of the LIME Foundation appealed.

According to Miller, the aim is to increase the number of units gathered over last year.  Direct efforts are also being made to get members of corporate Jamaica and business operators in the vicinity of its Half Way Tree Road office to support the worthy cause.

“The need for blood is great and we will try to assist in whatever way we can. Many Jamaicans would be aware of the Foundation’s strong support for the country’s public health sector and through this investment we are hoping to help boost blood storage levels beyond the current 50% of the nation’s requirement.” Mr. Miller added.

The ‘Blood Bank’ is currently on a bid to achieve 100% voluntary donation of blood by the year 2020. This comes with a target of at least 100 donations per day.

The donation of blood overall leads to healthier lives for both donors and recipients. Donating blood may reduce the risk of heart disease, boost the production of red blood cells as well as maintain a balance in iron levels. It also carries the added benefit of the donor being screened for several possible future health risks.
