With one year passed since the May 1, 2011 start of the toll-free Tax Cheat Line 1-888-292-4328, Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) has seen encouraging results, as taxpayers are increasingly using the toll free line to report suspected tax cheats and dodgers.

To date the tax authority has raised assessments approximating $176m, following investigations of cases reported through the tax cheat line. The majority of these cases are in relation to:

  • Under reporting.
  • Failure to file.
  • Failure to pay over payroll tax amounts.
  • False & Altered Documents.
  • Unlawful Collection of GCT.

Of the 225 cases under investigation 105 have been closed or dispatched to other public bodies for action. These tax dodgers span several sectors of Jamaica’s business community including:

  • Manufacturing
  • Financial Services
  • Wholesale
  • Legal & Medical Services
  • Retail
  • Security
  • Adult Entertainment
