Counterfeit Cigarettes Valued at J$67.2M

Kingston, Jamaica:  Four hundred and forty eight (448) cases of cigarettes valued at approximately Sixty Seven Million Two Hundred Thousand Dollars (J$67.2M) were seized yesterday (May 1) at Kingston Wharves Limited.  
The shipment arrived aboard the Vega Nicholas and was detained on April 19, 2012.  The brands of the cigarettes found are Bronco and Boston as well as JW Lights Little cigars.  No arrests have been made thus far as investigations are ongoing.
 
The Customs Department is advising the public that counterfeit cigarettes, although cheaper, poses a serious health risk as the contents are unregulated and may be harmful to your health.  Therefore, the Department continues to implement procedures which lead to the discovery and destruction of illegal cigarettes from the Jamaican market place.
