-Public Sector workers to receive 10% rebate on purchases with ValuCard

More than 120,000 civil servants in Jamaica will soon be able to get access to exclusive deals and cash-back on their purchases at Digicel, with the introduction of a new Team Jamaica ValuCard initiative. The ValuCard is a collaborative effort of the private sector and public sector workers’ unions.

Along with Digicel, other local companies including Wisynco, Lasco, Fontana Pharmacy, Progressive Grocers, IGL, Tastee and Medical Associates have stepped up to the plate, all with the common goal of giving back to the public sector workers and improving their spending power.

“Many of our civil servants in Jamaica earn low salaries and most times, their compensation doesn’t match their contribution,” observed Sean Latty, Chief Operations Officer at Digicel. “This ValuCard gives the private sector an easy way to give back to the public sector workers by offering them benefits that allow them to save or even earn cash back while procuring the goods and services they need.”

He added, “Digicel is therefore very happy to be part of this initiative as we know this will make a positive change in the lives of many of our customers and their families and we’re always looking for a chance to add even more value.”

As an initial offer, public servants who purchase select handsets at Digicel stores islandwide will receive a 10% cash rebate, which will be applied to their ValuCard. Cardholders will also have access to other special deals and offers through the scheme.

“Any effort by the private sector to reward public sector workers for their sacrifice and restraint is commendable and must be supported,” said the Honourable Horace Dalley, Minister with responsibility for Public Service in the Ministry of Finance and Planning. “The workers of Jamaica have paid a heavy price to maintain our social stability and have contributed to the progress of the nation and for this, they are indeed deserving of rewards such as this ValuCard.”

Dalley closed, “We would also encourage others to follow suit in recognising the tremendous efforts that the workers have made to our nation’s development.”

The Team Jamaica ValuCard scheme was officially launched on Friday, October 30 at the Super Shopper’s Fair at the Boulevard Shopping Centre.
