“Team European Union” made an impressive showing at the CB Group/ UWI 5k, creating a sea of the blue with 250 registered participants. This marked the EU's third showing at the annual charity 5k event, with proceeds from the race funding scholarships to students of the UWI, as well as aid in the University's programme for sports development.

Team EU chose to participate in this special event as it closes out a marquee year recognizing the Jamaica-EU 40 Year partnership. This partnership has seen over a 1 billion Euro (JMD 129 billion) invested in supporting Jamaica and its people. Ambassador Paola Amadei, Head of the EU Delegation to Jamaica spoke at the start of the event: "I am delighted to be part of the 250-strong Team EU today. The EU's contribution to this worthy cause is heartfelt and will make a real impact. But it is only a small part of the wider range of cooperation that the EU has had in Jamaica for the past 40 years.  Events like this symbolize that we are all moving towards the same target together, whether we walk or run."

In this year's race, Team European Union sponsored children from Alpha Institute (formerly Alpha Boys School) and the neighbouring August Town Primary School, as well as students from some of the primary schools which have benefitted from the EU-funded Poverty Reduction Programme (PRP):  Windward Road Primary and Junior High, as well as St. Patrick’s Primary.  Staff of the EU Delegation, including Ambassador Amadei and PRP as well as members of their families also participated in the run. This strong showing led to the EU team winning the prize for largest corporate sponser.
