Senator the Hon. Arnold J. Nicholson, QC, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, departed the island today as head of Jamaica’s delegation to the 24th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), scheduled for November 27 – 29 in Malta under the theme “The Commonwealth - Adding Global Value”.

The meeting is expected to select a new Secretary General and will hold discussions on other areas to include the concerns of small states; migration; violent extremism and radicalisation and the implementation of the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, recently adopted by world leaders at the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly.

The CHOGM is a biennial Summit bringing together Heads from all 53 Commonwealth nations.

Minister Nicholson will also be attending the Pre-CHOGM Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting, scheduled for November 25 and 26.

Jamaica’s delegation also includes Ambassador Paul Robotham, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and H.E. Aloun N’Dombet Assamba, High Commissioner of Jamaica in London.
