Flooding Traps 7 Persons in Hopwell,Hanover

“Flooding Traps7 Persons in Hopwell,Hanover” The Office of Disaster Preparedness andEmergency Management (ODPEM)is advising the public that flooding hasoccurred in the Hopewell, Hanover and seven residents of the communitywere trapped by flood watersThe Lucea Fire Station confirmed that a section of thecommunity was seriously impacted and a family was trapped by flood waters.

One unit from the Lucea Station and another from Montego Bayresponded to the scene and rescued the individuals who sustained noinjuries.

There are no further reports of flooding or other incidents since the rainhas dissipated, however heavyshowers affected several sections of Western Jamaica.

The ODPEM is advising the public to remember to stay away from floodedareas and to evacuate family and friends if water begins to rise nearhomes. Avoid fordings, Rivers, Gullies and other waterways in heavy rainconditions.The ODPEM will continue to monitor the situation and further updates willbe provided as the situation demands.-end-Contact: Delmares White, DirectorInformation and Training
