Restaurants of Jamaica Ltd (ROJ), operators of the country’s leading Quick Service Restaurant chains, KFC and Pizza Hut, have reduced menu prices of their popular food offerings to reflect the 1% GCT reduction advised by Government that is to be effective Friday, June 1, 2012.
Due to the chain’s pricing strategy, the reduction will reflect the equivalent of more than the required 1% in some instances. On the popular KFC 2 pc meal, the ‘Meal Deal’, along with the 3 pc meal offering, the ‘Big Deal’, sandwiches, wings, and a range of other KFC products will reflect a reduction of $5 to as much as $25 on some higher priced offerings.
Mr. Mark Myers, Managing Director of Restaurants of Jamaica, states “The Government has put a GCT reduction in place as a benefit to Jamaican consumers and we are reflecting that change to our customers on the day it has come into effect.”
Myers goes on to explain how the additional taxes in other areas will affect the brands. “Additional tax in other areas will definitely challenge the cost of doing business, the effects of which we are currently evaluating. We have always maintained a strategy to ensure we pass on the maximum benefit to the consumer so, consistent with our philosophy of how we relate to our customers, it is our intent to pass on the required GCT reduction, when it is due.”
In these very challenging economic times, KFC faces the threat of increased costs from multiple suppliers however, Myers states, “Should subsequent events require adverse movements in our pricing, we are still passing on the GCT benefits under Government’s instruction resulting in reduced prices for however long it is possible.”
KFC is the only Quick service restaurant chain that has adhered to the GCT reduction effective June 1, 2012. Based on ROJ’s long standing philosophy, they will always default to the benefit of their valued consumer and provide the best quality meals at the most affordable prices.
