Digicel | 2016-09-30 16:00:00

Kingston, Jamaica—September 30, 2016: As Hurricane Matthew heads closer to Jamaica, Digicel has put its hurricane contingency plan into high gear and has ensured that everything is in place to best manage the effects of the bad weather system.

Specifically, Digicel has ensured that all of its 1000 plus cell sites and fibre network serving residential and business customers across the island are in good order and ready to keep Jamaica connected. Digicel has also made available into the market a significant amount of paper top up vouchers to ensure that customers can stay in touch.

At the same time, Digicel’s Crisis Management Team, led by Head of Facilities and Emergency Management, Vince Plummer, is now in place to play an essential role in ensuring optimal network readiness and delivery, and to monitor and track the hurricane as it gathers strength over the Caribbean Sea.

In urging Jamaicans to do all they can to prepare for the storm and to stay safe, Plummer comments; “Our primary concern is for everyone to remain safe while we work on keeping them connected to friends and family throughout the bad weather. We’re urging everyone to stock up on basic items, secure their homes, keep their phones charged and topped up and to know their nearest evacuation zone.”

He continues; “Likewise, we have done everything possible to ensure that we are ready to weather the storm and have mobilised our technical teams and field engineers across the island to safeguard the network.”
