ODPEM | 2016-10-04 13:33:00

The Meteorological Service has discontinued the TROPICAL STORM WARNING for Jamaica. The island is no longer under threat of tropical storm-force winds as Hurricane Matthew continues to move away and weather conditions improve.

At a press briefing at the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) on Tuesday morning, the Minister of Local Government and Community Development advised that the public transportation system has resumed service today and Ministries, Departments and Agencies should be re-opened to allow for usual service. He also used the opportunity to thank the ODPEM’s management and staff for their commitment and service and noted that the Government of Jamaica is especially grateful for having been speared significant damage from the storm, however grave concern remains for Haiti as the system moves toward Cuba.
