Lenford Adams, who was racing for the first time this season, said the event was a good start for the year and that he enjoyed the competition from Pitter.

“I enjoyed the run today, it is a good route and I think the other competitors all enjoyed the competition from each other. I knew most of the guys competing, including Pitter, but I had a strategy and I stuck to it. That proved to be the difference. We were neck and neck most of the way, but I planned to kick on from the 4K marker. That push brought me some separation from him and I drove on from there. I would have loved a better time, but I am not yet in top shape, so I am comfortable with what I posted,” said Adams.

In the day’s other events, Ryon Chambers improved his 2016 second place finish with a big win to take home the 9K title in a time of 33:30, almost three minutes faster than second placed, Jermaine Palmer 35:50. Yasuyuki Koyana was third in 36:14. Janetta Robinson also made a big improvement from her 2016 third place finish to take the pole position in the female 9K in 43:29. Jozanne Harris finished in second place in a time of 44:09 with Tricia McCatty third, in 44:35.

Paula Sinclair took home the female 5K Walk title with an impressive 33:14 to finish way ahead of the pack. Fern Townsend came in second with 36:54 and Nadine Maitland, 37:20 secured third place spot. Jon Saleen Oliphant secured the Male Walk title in 28:24, with Johnson Gladstone and O’Shea Morgan taking home second and third with times of 30:23 and 32:20 respectively.
The first 2,000 finishers of all the race events received a half medal at Sunday’s event. The special commemorative medal is split in two – with the other half to be presented at the series’ finale on Sunday, June 18, which will be a special staging for Father’s Day.

In keeping with the theme of encouraging healthy lifestyle practices, participants received post-race massages along with free blood pressure and basic health checks from the Heart Foundation of Jamaica. The beneficiaries for the 2017 staging of the Everyone’s a Winner The Best Dressed Chicken Road Race Series is the Diabetes Association of Jamaica.
