As the Tourism Product Development Company Limited (TPDCo) continues to lead the enhancement and diversification of the tourism product through trainings, execution of projects and product quality supervision; outstanding staff members were awarded within their areas of expertise for their contribution to the organization and the sector.
On Tuesday July 18, 2017 the organization honoured one hundred and six staff members at their Staff Service Awards Luncheon. The event which was held at the Caymanas Golf and Country Club was guided by the theme “Harvesting Excellence, Unveiling The Treasure,” recognized outstanding individuals for the period 2013- 2016, with special recognition given to those who have served for twenty years and over.
Minister of Tourism Honourable Edmund Bartlett, the keynote speaker at the luncheon, congratulated the awardees for their visible hard work and dedication. “TPDCo continues to evolve into the pristine custodian of the integrity of our destination. It is TPDCo that stands in the gap between the promise we make to the visitors in the marketplace and the experience they have when they get here. That makes you critical to the tourism process.” He said.
He also reminded the group that as they strive to build and maintain the sector, they should be guided by seamlessness, security and safety.  These factors, he noted fall under the responsibility of the Destination Assurance Councils, which is administered by TPDCo.  These councils will help to add value to the sector by ensuring that the visitors are fully satisfied with the experience, which helps to position Jamaica as the ideal destination. Minister Bartlett went on to say that TPDCo is a major player in the sector and urged them to be responsive as changes are happening rapidly.
Chairman of the organization, Mr. Ian Dear also lent kind words. “As you receive your respective awards, feel proud of your accomplishments and let these awards continue to motivate you to increased levels of productivity, inspire you to achieve improvements in the service quality to our stake holders, and stimulate you to unveil the treasure that lies within you; it is human capital treasure that will collectively impact this dynamic and significant tourism industry,” he said
In keeping with the theme of providing excellent service, the awardees were presented with a motivational speech entitled “Autograph your work with excellence” by Ms. Essie Gardner, Region Advisor for Toastmasters International; who is also the Marketing Communications Manager at the Jamaica Tourist Board, Ms.Gardner reminded the staff to persevere and to perform their tasks with due diligence. “We work in an industry which is Jamaica’s bread and butter; therefore we should motivate ourselves to offer excellent service every day. We can’t wait for others to validate us, for Jamaica needs excellence.” She said
The timing of the Staff Service Awards was fitting as the sector is currently experiencing historical milestones.  Jamaica recently welcomed their one millionth visitor and should expect close to four million visitors by the end of the year. Jamaica is also experiencing the best summer in its tourism history.  Minister Bartlett said “I just want to say TPDCo shares in the very positive growth that Jamaica is enjoying today.”
The selected individuals were awarded in the following categories: Over-Achiever, Highest Achiever by Department, Manager of the Year, Employee of the Year, Regional Star Performer, Innovator of the Year 2015/2016 and the Long Service Award for those who have served ten to twenty years.
