B3 Parenting Magazine will host the first of two breakthrough events targeting Jamaican boys and parents entitled #OurSons and Modern Parenting, at the Courtleigh Auditorium and the Serengeti Bistro, Hope Zoo.

The founder of these inaugural events and host for the evening, Michelle Gordon, is a Mother, Parenting and Lifestyle Consultant, and the Editor-in-Chief of B3 Parenting Magazine. Michelle has made it her life's passion to encourage other parents and endow them with the right skills and views to tackle common parenting issues and concerns. It is with this passion, that the #OurSons Movement and Modern Parenting Forum was born.

"I'm excited not just because these are new B3 events, but because I really believe that the time is NOW to get solid and meaningful conversations (and action), going about parenting. As a parenting consultant, I know the challenges that parents can face especially when raising boys, and as a mother I am aware of the direct impact that my son will have on society based on how he has been raised. #OurSons is an important seed-planting event for our young men, while Modern Parenting will fertilize parents' minds with useful and low-hanging tools for success. Our ‘chats’ offer achievable solutions for today’s parents to ultimately improve relationships with our children, based on real-life personal circumstances and not just academic theories and equations," stated Gordon.

#OurSons is an empowering, inspirational and interactive chat session and half day workshop for boys and young men ages 8 to 16. Geared to providing the help, direction, guidance and support that our Jamaican boys need, this event will offer our boys the opportunity to connect with mentors and receive the support they need to succeed at life. Along with chats from our Jamaican men, the day will feature a motivational session by international guest speaker, Troy Kemp, Executive Director for the National Centre for the Development of Boys. Kemp will speak on What It Means to be a Man and Creating a Game Plan for Success.

In the evening, at the Serengeti Bistro, Hope Zoo, the parents will gather for an evening of honest sharing and real solutions to several of the problems facing Jamaican parents. Modern Parenting is designed to help parents understand how they can best connect with their children and to provide support on their parenting journey. The panel will feature anecdotes, advice, answers and more from Jamaican dads: Wavell Hinds, Christopher Ramson, Chris Dehring, John Azar, Marlon Williams and David Morrison; and Jamaican moms: Yaneek Page, Nicole Campbell, Diahann Gordon-Harrison, Haedi-Kaye Holmes, Melanie Schwapp and Marcia Forbes.

"The Office of the Children's Advocate has developed a sound track record of endorsing events that are worthwhile for Our children. #Oursons and Modern Parenting fall squarely within this bracket. Come on out to these events, you won’t want to miss it!” said Diahann Gordon-Harrison, The Children's Advocate of Jamaica and panellist.
