Reggae Icon Capleton and Spice from VH1’s Love & Hip Hop Atlanta Headline International Festival of Life at Union Park Independence Day Weekend Festival celebrates 50 years of Reggae Music and honors Jean Baptiste Point DuSable

Reggae star Capleton and Dancehall Queen Spice of VH1’s Love and Hip Hop Atlanta headlines this year’s 26th International Festival of Life, June 6-8, 2018 at Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph Street, Chicago.


Joining Capleton and Spice, will be recording artists Ace Hood, Yellowman, Elephant Man, and singer/songwriter Terisa Griffin, who will headline the more than 50 act line-up, on two stages for this exciting three day Independence weekend event, doors open from noon until 10pm each day.


IFOL is a complete family festival of fun, music, food, arts, crafts games and more, that generally attracts thousands of festivalgoers, expected to attend this anticipated holiday gathering. This year’s event theme is “TheReggae50” celebrating 50 years of Reggae music. While at the same time memorializing the “Founder of Chicago” Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable who passed away 200 years ago. Invited dignitaries who will pay homage to DuSable includes Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Congressman Danny Davis, and Alderman Walter Burnett.


Also performing will be Chicago Music Awards winners the Lever band (Best Rock & Roll Entertainer), festivalgoers can expect a vast array of music ranging from Reggae, Soca, R&B, Pop, Hip Hop, Gospel, Jazz, Blues, Dance, Latin, and other world music acts.


Event producer Ephraim Martin noted, “As we celebrate ‘TheReggae50’ fifty years of reggae since 1968 to 2018 we are saluting the pioneers of reggae, and contemporary artists who have made this genre of music globally recognized.”


The objective of the International Festival of Life is to unite and bring nations together through music and culture, while highlighting the culture of people descending from the Caribbean, African and the Americas.
