Kingston Wharves Limited announced that for forty students will gain employment and on-the-job experience as part of its summer employment and internship programme. Grantley Stephenson, CEO of Kingston Wharves, explained that the programme which is ongoing over the years was primarily for the children of employees. However, this year it was felt that it was necessary to expand the opportunities to students of Caribbean Maritime University, University of Technology, University of the West Indies and students from some High Schools. Mr. Stephenson further states that “with our continued support for logistics and the we saw this as an opportunity to expose the students to practical applications at Kingston Wharves, both on and off port with, given our recent developments”.

The programme has been planned to emphasize transitioning of interns to the workplace environment, preparing them with some of the skills that they will find valuable going forward. In addition to the normal orientation interns are exposed to an introduction to project management and in-depth safety orientation with a compliance exam. Interns will be placed at its various locations including the Total Logistics Facility, Global Auto Logistics Centre and the main port terminal.
