Further updates: Fumes by the Portmore toll

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) advises that the following activities are currently in process as part of the investigation to identify the source and to ascertain the type of substance which emitted fumes within the vicinity of the Portmore Toll Plaza on Thursday, June 28, 2012:

  • Lab work being conducted by the National Environmental & Planning Agency (NEPA) which will be available during the course of this week.
  • Video footage from the Toll Authority showing vehicles passing through Toll Booths from 0-1 hour when incident was reported. I
  • nvestigations by the Ministry of Health (MOH) of persons reporting to health centres expressing similar symptoms as those of the first set of affected individuals.

The ODPEM awaits the results of the above procedures in order to establish and provide conclusive statements on the incident.
