Against the backdrop of Jamaica’s National Senior Athletic Trails Jamaica 50Secretariat launched its prestigious One Million Pins Initiative a commemorativelapel pin of pride that symbolizes love and respect for country and commitmentto the tenets of the National Pledge.
“The One Million Pins Initiative is a global movement that seeks to rally Jamaicans at home andabroad to wear this ‘pin of pride’, confirms Robert Bryan, Project Director of Jamaica 50.
“We have a population of 2.8 million and the Diaspora is estimated to be nearly as large, we want to use this opportunity – our 50th anniversary – our Golden Jubilee – to try and unify ourbeloved country” Bryan continues.
The pin initiative was launched at the Opening Ceremony of the National Senior Athletics Trialsat the National Stadium on Friday evening, June 29, 2012 at which time pins were presented tothe Hon. Prime Minister Mrs. Portia Simpson and Mr. Andre Holness, Leader of the Oppositionby Minister Lisa Hanna, Minister of Youth and Culture. The occasion saw other officialsincluding former Prime Ministers, Hon. P.J. Patterson and Hon.
Edward Seaga being presentedwith their Pin of Pride.The ‘pin of pride’ is attractively designed using the Jamaica 50 logo, raised and engraved, andcomes in four exquisite finishes – gold die struck; coloured cloisonné; iron enamel antique andgold and green enamel. The pins are collector’s items, neatly package and priced at J$700.00each.
