JAMAICA DEFENCE FORCE COAST GUARD (JDF CG) URGES FISHER-FOLK TO EVACUATE PEDRO CAYS

Jamaica Defence Force | 2018-09-11 11:46:00

The Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard (JDF CG) is on high alert, as Tropical Storm Isaac continues its approach towards the Eastern Caribbean. In preparation, the JDF Coast Guard says it will be evacuating its personnel from Station Pedro Cays and is advising fisher-folk occupying the Cays to proceed similarly to mainland Jamaica at their earliest opportunity.

“We are urging persons on the banks to heed these warnings” says Lieutenant Commander Aceion Prescott, Acting Commanding Officer of the JDF Coast Guard, “as these storms can strengthen suddenly and become even deadlier and more unpredictable overnight”.  In order to assist persons on the Pedro Banks, the JDF Coast Guard says it has sent one of its Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) to the banks, which is due to arrive tomorrow morning. Persons in need of conveyance assistance are urged to take advantage of the opportunity during the course of tomorrow morning as the approaching storm will make it extremely unlikely that another trip will be possible.
