History will come alive on stage and screen at the University of Technology, Jamaica on Thursday, November 22, 2018 in the Alfred Sangster Auditorium beginning at 7pm.   In celebration of the University’s 60th anniversary, UTech, Jamaica will stage the musical theatre production titled ‘Long Distance’.   The production tells the story of three generations of a family who attended the institution over the transitions from polytechnic to college to university status.  As challenges within the family, university and country unfold, the production will demonstrate how the characters are able to cope with their circumstances.

The production is scripted and directed by stage actress and playwright, Gracia Thompson and features scenes and compositions staged by the students and tutors of the Centre for the Arts.  Director of the Centre, Philip Clarke deems it to be “a combination of nostalgia and national pride through music, technology, dance and drama celebrating the birthplace of greatness.”
Since the inception, the University of Technology, Jamaica has prided itself on the substantial contributions it has made to Jamaica’s social and economic development. The two (2) hour production will actively engage the audience by highlighting the university’s achievements in teaching, research, sport, community service and its impact on national development presented in an imaginative manner.
