Leader of the Opposition, Andrew Holness, is tonight saluting our Olympians on their impressive showing over the weekend at the games in London. Mr. Holness said it is a distinct pleasure to join with the rest of the nation in celebrating the success of our heroic men and women at the Olympics.
The Opposition Leader singled out Shelly-ann Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell-Brown who won gold and bronze respectively in Saturday's final of the women's 100 metres, as well as Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake who mined gold and silver respectively in Sunday's final of the men's 100 metres in London. They are deserving of the commendation and overwhelming support they are receiving at this time, from a nation basking in pride and triumph on the cusp of its golden jubilee.
Holness said: "Our athletes have undoubtedly blessed our nation with a most fitting and appropriate gift as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of our nation's independence. With our national anthem and the black, green and gold of the Jamaican flag set to take centre stage in London on the very day we mark our golden jubilee, Jamaicans at home and in the Diaspora should stand proud and tall, as we are feted to a very special and deserving gift from our Olympians."
Mr. Holness in closing, called on Jamaicans at home and abroad to continue praying for our athletes and encouraging them, as they take on the world and make the entire nation proud - bringing the thrill of victory and the joy of success to our shores.
