The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) in response to its request, on Tuesday afternoon received from the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS), a preliminary report on the loss of power across the island on the weekend.

Having examined this report, the OUR as part of its investigation, has requested from the company additional information which will assist in determining the cause of the outage as well as the integrity and security of the system.

The additional information will aid in determining what regulatory interventions may be required.

JPS must submit this additional information by Friday August 10, 2012.

According to the preliminary report from the JPS, there was what it called a system disturbance in the vicinity of the Duhaney substation and the problem cascaded to eventually affect all customers.
