Like the world champion body builder who visited our school early 1970’s, we were prepared by our “Girl School” to not only take on the world but to excel. My teachers, McNeil, Dodd, Hanson, Forde (Jr), Henry and classmates such as Merrick McFarlane, Audrey Rose, Carlton McNaughton and Emory Wynn helped in making my experience enriching and enjoyable. Thanks to all who have held up our school and God Bless. Wilbert N Lawrence T HE BARRACKS Road Primary School family recognises with pride the outstanding contributions of this dedicated and hard- working educator, Miss Rema Brown. Her professional career at this institution started on the September 1, 1992, and has continued for nearly 29 years, mainly in grade six, where she has masterfully prepared our students to sit the Common Entrance, GSAT and PEP examinations. Not only were her students exposed to a high level of pedagogy, but, also, very meaningful life skills were taught and inculcated, as was attested to by many parents who saw the social growth and behavioural maturity of their children. In 2006 she was appointed Senior Teacher III with the responsibility of being a School- based Assessment Coordinator. This she did with excellence. Her submissions of students’ records and documents re: examinations to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information Region 4 were so meticulously done that no errors were ever detected during their verification exercise, despite the large numbers submitted each year. Her achievements and awards include: Top teacher for boys in the VMBS Scholarship Award (2000); Teacher of GSAT and PEP scholarship winners (1999- 2002) and (2004-2019); Coach of the champion team in the Montego Bay Co-operative Credit Union Schools’ Academic Championship (2000); Dance teacher for troops receiving gold, silver and bronze award in JCDC dance competitions (1993-2000); Teacher of winning grade-six project in the All- Island Tourism Awareness Competition 1998; Award for outstanding and dedicated service at Barracks Road Primary School in 2001, 2002 and 2019; JTA Golden Torch award for 28 years service (July 9, 2015).
