A good provider

of jobs

IT WAS exactly 20 years and six months ago

that Beverly Edwards-Hunt joined the Bert’s

Auto Parts family as an office attendant.

The pleasant and friendly staffer is

today a merchandise assistant at the

company’s Molynes Road branch, still

serving with a freshness of perspective

that 20 years could not tarnish.

How she does this is quite simple – she

loves her job and

the people she

works with.

“If there is any

issue, you can go

to your co-worker

and rap with them.

At Bert’s, what I

love is the fact

that we get

allowances for

things like uniform

and an end-of-year

bonus,” she said.

Like her, others

entered the company in different positions

than the ones in which they are currently serv-

ing. She attests, “Bert’s has been a good

provider of jobs for many persons, and as long

as you come here and work honestly, you

have nothing to worry about – you will grow.”


Five years ago, the company celebrated

25 years of doing business. If ever there is

a memory that is fondest in Edwards-

Hunt’s mind, it’s this one.

“It was a very good occasion!” she

recalls vividly. “The church service was

awesome. Tomlinson really was into the

worship, and I loved that.”

The industry in which she works is one

that allows her to interact with clientele

from all walks of life, and she is resolved

on delivering quality customer service,

whoever the customer.

“I know how to deal with certain situa-

tions,” she said. “I’m more tolerant.

Sometimes you just have to keep quiet

and let the customer vent.

The future for Bert’s Auto Parts is

undoubtedly bright but if Edwards-Hunt

were to have her wish, it would be

“bigger, better, and wider”.



BERT’S AUTO Parts is the

place of employment for a

number of talented and

competent individuals,

and Rohan O’Rielly is one

of them.

He started out as a ware-

house clerk 25 years ago

and today, he is a ware-

house supervisor within

the organisation he is

boastful of.

“Bert’s is a brand-name

company,” he asserted.

“It’s a company that’s

always growing because

now, we’re at over 200

staff, and when I started, it

was probably less than

10,” he joked.

According to him, “The

company has grown a

whole lot because before,

we didn’t have some of

the things we have now,

like lunch rooms and so

forth. The things that we

need to work more effi-

ciently like equipment and

whatever we need to

make work comfortable,

the employer sources it.”

As a Supervisor, he views

the relationship between

himself and those he over-

sees as being up to stan-

dards. “I can tell them what

to do, and they do it. If I

have any problems, I can sit

down and talk to them,

and whatever area needs

to fix get fixed,” he said.



When asked his favourite

memory over the years,

the team player naturally

illustrated a scenario in

which all staff hands had

to be placed on deck to

achieve a common goal.

He said, “We had a situa-

tion four years ago at one

of our locations, and a

team was brought in. They

store oil at that location,

and there was an oil

spillage, and we worked on

it to clean up the facility

and make it better.”

He described the moment

in which the team pulled

together to go the extra

mile and get the job done

as a proud one.



Like his colleagues,

O’Rielly had only positive

things to say about the

individual at the helm of

the organisation, Bert

Tomlinson. “He is a very

serious businessman. He

takes care of his business.

Late hours when other

persons are home, he’s at

work, and he tries to make

sure that the things for his

business get done and get

done properly,” he said.

He respects the

open-door policy held by

Tomlinson and confesses

that his greatest lessons

over the years have been,

teamwork, respect, and


For the future of Bert’s:

“I envision more training

for the staff because there

will always be new people

coming in, so I’d like to

see more persons getting

trained in different areas,”

he said.


INCE 1996, Barrington Robinson

has been on staff at Bert’s Auto

Parts. Today, he is the technical

parts manager.

With a friendly disposition, he uses

his seniority and years of experience

to work comfortably alongside fel-

low colleagues who look to him for

advice. This also translates into him

delivering superior customer service,

something that his organisation is

known for.

“The environment is organised and

put-together. People tend to come

to Bert’s first, and we always try to

satisfy them,” he says.

It was a former co-worker at a pre-

vious place of employment who

introduced him to the company. At

that time, the opening was for a

parts specialists to take on deportee


Through Robinson’s

eyes, the growth of the

organisation has been


“At the time, we

could only think about

the Mitsubishi and

Toyota section, and

from there, we went

to Toyota and Nissan.

Then, we went to

Molynes Road, and

then we went to

Hagley Park. Presently,

we have three warehouses.”


His current position sees him work-

ing from the warehouse and less

‘out of the action’.

About this reality, he said, “I’ve

been in the field for so long, and I

wanted a change of

environment. They knew

that I was the parts spe-

cialist, and the ware-

house is where the parts

first enter into the com-

pany, so I was better off


Robinson is proud that

his organisation has

remained in the market

for 30 years. “A lot of

companies start and

don’t reach even five or

ten years,” he says.

His wishes for the next 30 years

for Bert’s Auto Parts: “Continuous

dominance in the market. I hope we

continue to ensure that all cus-

tomers are satisfied and that they

come and leave with a smile.”
