REDEVELOPMENT OF THE

GARMEX FREEZONE

The Garmex Freezone and Industrial Estate, which

is located on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston, sits on

44 acres of flat land. Garmex has approximately

545,000 square feet of net rentable space, the vast

majority of which was built for manufacturing and

warehousing.

As part of the redevelopment, 5.7 acres of green

field will be developed. Derelict buildings have been

demolished to add to the 360,000 square feet of new

space to be created for use by small and medium-size

enterprises in agro-processing, production, and

manufacturing.

Within the new space, a young entrepreneur zone

and incubator centre will be developed to facilitate

young persons who are starting a business or

conducting research.

Existing buildings will be redesigned to make them

modernised with multiple floors to facilitate a food

court, a medical facility, security posts, wells, and

CCTV.
