where teachers Shimoya Reece-Williams and Christina Reid were

both awarded for Most Outstanding Teachers in Dance. The

Rusea’s dance group then went on to the JCDC National Dance

Festival, where they brought home two gold and silver medals.

“We (Rusea’s High) in the 2016-17 academic year, had our

Science Club participate in the annual National Science

Competition staged by the Scientific Research Council and the

Association of Science Teachers of Jamaica. The club created a

mosquito repellant from dried breadfruit and orange peel. The

group copped second place in the secondary schools’ category.

They also received the awards for Most Outstanding Chemistry

Project and the project with the greatest potential for

commercialisation,” explained Principal Linvern Wright. “The

students were supervised by Jasset Hector, Wenworth Wright

(chemistry teachers), and Hopelyn Brissett (head of the Science

Department),” the principal added.

SHINING IN DEBATING COMPETITION

In the previous academic year, the Student Council body

entered the Students’ Council’s Region 4 Debate Competition,

and of 25 schools, emerged as Parish Champions for Hanover

and Western Regional Champions. The team was coached by
