HEART AND WORLD SKILLS INTERNATIONAL The France Delegation to France led by Managing Director, Dr. Taneisha Ingleton. Jamaica’s association with WorldSkills International represents the HEART/ NSTA’s continuous efforts to strengthen Jamaica’s TVET system through the infusion of global standards and best practices as essential building blocks for the equipping of a globally competitive Jamaican workforce. With the formal establishment of WorldSkills Jamaica in 2002, Jamaica became the first Caribbean nation to participate in the WorldSkills International Competition in Helsinki, Finland in 2005 and to host the WorldSkills International General Assembly and Youth Forum in October 2010. The Trust has organised and funded country participation in WorldSkills Competitions in Japan 2007, Canada 2009, Brazil 2010, London 2011, Kazan 2019. In 2022, Jamaica participated in the WorldSkills International Special Edition Competition 2022 held in 15 countries and 26 cities due to the COVID pandemic and comprised over 1,000 young people competing in 63 skills areas. Team Jamaica fielded participants in four skill areas in the United States, France and Japan: Welding, United States • Stevaun Williams – Competitor • Garfield Smith – Expert Mobile Robotics, Plastering and Dry Wall Systems, France • Sonya Hill – Competitor • Jeovany Graham – Competitor • Dihanroy Mitchell – Expert • Andrey Christie – Competitor • Sanjay Morrison – Expert Optoelectronics Technology, Japan • Lamar Beale – Competitor • Martin Plummer – Expert Congratulations to Lamar Beale who was placed fifth in Optoelectronics at WorldSkills 2022 in Kyoto, Japan. This new skill area in World Skills is an emerging technology used in a range of applications from lighting products to medical research and treatment, advanced manufacturing devices and measuring technology. HEART/NSTA commends Lamar for performing well at the Competition with the guidance of his expert, Mr. Martin Plummer; an instructor for optoelectronics at Newport Vocational Training Centre. Commendations are also in order for Andrey Christie as well as Jeovany Graham and Sonya Hill for valiant efforts in the areas of Plastering and Drywall Systems and Mobile Robotics respectively.
