Before In Support of the GOJ Social Housing Programme In the 2022/23 operational cycle, the Agency will redirect a percentage of its annual training materials budget to the Government’s Social Housing Programme through the Tiny House initiative. Six persons will benefit from the construction of these houses, which will be done by HEART Trainees under the supervision of their instructors. The houses will be built with the following features: • Solar photo-voltaic system • Smart electrical fixtures • Solar water heating • Rainwater harvesting • Sustainable agriculture practice • Climate change resilience building system (insulated concrete panel). In 2021/22, HEART/NSTA Trust constructed three houses and repaired one home to livable conditions under the Tiny House Project for needy families. HEART trainees and instructors of the TVET Engineering Cluster at the Rockfort Vocational Training Centre, came to the aid of Ms. Saunderson, an elderly member of the Rockfort community. Rockfort VTC built a one-bedroom, openconcept house to relocate Ms. Saunderson from her dilapidated dwelling and to a better quality of life. The newsolar-powered housewas partially furnished and equipped with fixtures, wall art, and toiletries, and handed over to Ms. Saunderson. Additionally the Rockfort team built a perimeter wall and a new gate to the premises. BesidesbeingatangibleexpressionofHEART/ NSTA’s corporate social responsibility, this ‘Tiny House’ Project is providing invaluable experience, work-based training and industry experience for the trainees. HEART/NSTA ‘TINY HOUSE’ PROJECT The Rockfort VTC successfully designed, built and delivered a new house to an elderly member of the Rockfort community.
