Jamaica Mortage Bank
NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | SUNDAY, JUNE 6, 2021 4 JAMAICA MORTGAGE BANK 50TH ANNIVERSARY FIFTY YEARS is a remarkable mile- stone for any organisation, particu- larly for one that is critical to the quality of life for all Jamaicans. Since its inception on June 2, 1971, and to being a statutory corporation on June 5, 1973, the Jamaica Mortgage Bank (JMB) has effectively carried out its mandate as being an important component of, and dynamic force in, the construction and housing sectors. The Government expects an even more dynamic role for the Jamaica Mortgage Bank as the process of privatising the agency moves to completion. We are cognisant of the feeling of empowerment created by the words ‘I own’, for those who can lawfully utter them. For more Jamaicans to be able to say those words, the JMB must continue to play a pivotal role in the provision of avenues for the devel- opment of various housing initia- tives which contribute to the overall provision of shelter for all our citi- zens, mindful of, and encouraging at all times, the imperatives of environ- mental sustainability and climate resilience. I, therefore, urge the leadership and staff at the JMB to continue to adhere to the principles of account- ability, respect, integrity, excellence, partnership, innovation and the development of team potential, in carrying out their mandate. Jamaica and her people deserve no less. As the Jamaica Mortgage Bank celebrates its golden anniversary, reflects on its history, celebrates its successes and looks forward to an- other 50 years, I wish to thank and commend the general manager, Mr CourtneyWynter, and his dedicated and energetic team, as well as the board of directors, for their com- mitted and meaningful service to Jamaica. Continue the important work towards achieving the agency’s articulated vision: ‘To finance safe and affordable housing, so that all Jamaicans will have access to home- ownership’, and by so doing, play its part in the creation of a Jamaica that is truly “the place of choice to live, work, raise families and do business”. HON PEARNEL CHARLES JR, MP Minister of Housing, Urban Renewal, Environment and Climate Change COMMITTED AND MEANINGFUL SERVICE TO JAMAICA I CONGRATULATE the Jamaica Mortgage Bank (JMB) on this ex- ceptional occasion of your 50th anniversary. The JMB has played a significant role in the housing finance market in Jamaica and has earned the right to be recognised as one of the pre- mier housing finance agencies, pub- lic or private, in the country. Any objective analysis of the pro- jects financed by JMB would con- firm your status as an extremely critical player. This includes the de- velopment of the Portmore com- munity and expansion into Greater Portmore on the southern plains of St Catherine. Those projects, along with oth- ers in Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine and St James, are visible testimonies to the important role played by the JMB over the 50 years in mobilising bridge financing and providingmuch liquidity to housing JMB CRUCIAL LINK IN THE HOUSING SECTOR PLEASE SEE CRUCIAL , 6
