Frompro- jects related environmental sustain- ability, sports, youth development and education, Kingston Wharves continues to a have a positive im- pact on nation-building. “In our corporate social respon- sibility efforts, our focus is engage- ment in activities and programmes that are transformational in nature; all the projects we do, we seek to ensure they are initiatives that have positive long-term implica- tions, specifically changing lives,” notes Simone Murdock, Corporate Services and Client Experience Manager. SUPPORTING SPORTS In 2019, Kingston Wharves cel- ebrated 30 years as title sponsors for youth cricket in Jamaica, un- derscoring its commitment and consistency. The Under-15 cricket competition has been KWL’s flag- ship corporate social responsibility undertaking, carried out in part- nership with the Jamaica Cricket Association. Unearthing fresh talent in boys that are poised for greatness, the competition has given rise to cricketing stars such as Chris Gayle, Andre Russell and numerous others. EDUCATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT Development of children and youth also continues to inspire KWL to contribute to the Union Gardens Infant School. KWL has been involved in the school for over 20 years – from Christmas treats, to school equipment, treats for the teachers and students – Kingston Wharves’support has been constant over the years. Kingston Wharves contributed significant resources to the construction of a state-of-the art facility to house the school, which was a collaborative effort of a num- ber of corporate partners. KWL has donated computers and projectors to aid in interactive learning. Principal of Union Gardens Infant School Gracie-Ann Moss-Solomon noted, “We at Union Gardens express our heartfelt thanks to KingstonWharves for your unwaver- ing support throughout the years.” She added,“KWL’s contribution in the educational arena is exemplary. Thank you for making such a differ- ence in so many lives.” Over the years, KWL has also supported social welfare activities through contribution to Father Holung’s Missionaries of the Poor. Sustainable Activities Additionally, sustainable environ- mental practices are a way of life for Kingston Wharves. For the last several years, the company has led the charge for the improvement of the physical appearance and en- vironmental health and safety of NewportWest through clean-up ex- ercises.
