NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2020 14 To live in the hearts of those we love is not to die. T HE PAST Students’Association of the Montego Bay High School mourns the passing of our beloved member, Mrs Elaine Somerville, and sends condolences to her family. She was a member of the first co- hort of students when the school opened for the first time in 1935, and was the last known survivor of that group. Mrs Somerville had pre- viously attended St Helena’s High, an Anglican school at 46 Market Street. When that school was closed, it was replaced by the Montego Bay High School for Girls at 51 Union Street, and we are happy that she became a student of our institution. She was a foundation member of the past students’ association. Her support and generosity to the asso- ciation and, by extension, the school, have been outstanding. She never missed an opportunity to demon- strate her love for her alma mater . Mrs Somerville has left a shining ex- ample of sharing and caring. Shewill be remembered by generations of past students who have been helped by her in various ways. She was the proprietor of Henderson’s Book Store and, through this medium, she has helped generations of past students by way of holiday jobs, permanent employment, and assistance with school supplies. She gave to many causes without fanfare or publicity. May her life be an example to others and may her soul rest in peace.
