NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2020 15 MONTEGO BAY HIGH SCHOOL 85TH ANNIVERSARY A S WE celebrate our 85th an- niversary, we recognise the achievements of this out- standing past student, champion athlete, gifted, loving sister and friend, Pauline Chambers. Pauline attended Montego Bay High School from 1954 to 1958. A brilliant student who excelled in all her subjects, she was involved in athletics, drama, music, dance, cookery, and the school’s choir. She offered care to the stu- dents who had to travel to school, offering part of her lunch. This trend continued into her adult life as she ensured that the school’s feeding programme remained viable. Pauline was an outstanding athlete. As a member of Denham House, she challenged everyone on the track. Her main challengers were Margaret Vernon ( nee Gourzong), Christine Dexter ( nee Scarlett) and Pauline Powell. Pauline was also a great team player, being a representative of the Montego Bay High School’s track team, at Western Champs, and All- Island Champs Competition. Lorna Humphreys, one of her best friends, shared, “When I entered MBHS in 1955, a bond was formed immediately with this quiet, fun-lov- ing student. “An indomitable woman of faith,”stated Merle Fray Young.“We actively participated in the Christian Fellowship group. Loving, forgiving, loyal, and cheerful are words to de- scribe her. Pauline established, maintained and contributed to the past stu- dents’ association (PSA). Her persistence in keeping the associ- ation alive was phenomenal, even hosting meetings at her home in MangoWalk and having numerous fundraisers, for the benefit of the PSA. She remained a very active member up to her passing. As a part of Pauline’s legacy, all six PSA chapters will continue to celebrate her life. We salute you, with love … Pauline.
