I extend heartiest congratulations to the Montego Bay High School for Girls on this significant mile- stone and its outstanding contribution to the educational development of the nation. Despite the onset of the COVID-19 pan- demic, the school continues to achieve in many areas, and I commend its academic performances at the CSEC and CAPE lev- els, as well as the active participation of its students in sports and other co-curricular activities. Montego Bay High has truly pro- vided a balanced education to those who have passed through its hallowed halls. I applaud principal Gairy Powell, the dedi- cated teachers, hard-working educators who have remained committed to improving the institution’s standard of learning. This journey would not have been possible without the contribution of those charged with the leadership and the unbreakable relationship and support rendered by the board, parents and the alumnae. To the present students, I challenge you to be mindful of the outstanding heritage of your school. Accept the baton proudly and gratefully, with God’s blessing may you continue to blaze the trail of your predecessors, the appreciative alumni of Montego Bay High School for Girls. As you celebrate, I wish for this noble institution continued success in achieving excellence for years to come. Have a blessed and truly wonderful anniversary. FAYVALWILLIAMS Minister of Education, Youth and Information I T IS with pride that as mayor of Montego Bay, I extend heartiest congratulations to Montego Bay High School for Girls on the occasion of its 85th anniversary. This institution, which has been around since 1935, has been delivering to the parish of St James, Jamaica, and indeed the world, well-rounded and educated professionals who have been making major contributions in their fields. This school has been living up to its motto of ‘ Esse non videri’ … ‘To be, not to seem’. The city of Montego Bay and the St James Municipal Corporation are proud to be associated with the Montego Bay High School for Girls, an institution which started out as St Helena’s High School under the management of the Anglican Church at 46 Market Street before being relocated to its present site, which was known then as Beaconsfield. Special tribute must be paid to the school’s leadership over the years, which include Miss Blanche Jeffrey-Smith, Mrs Ritchie Croskery, Mrs Marjorie Grahame, Mrs Janet Morrison, Mrs Barbara Smith and Mrs Donna-Marie Redway, and others who have kept the institution upfront and centre as an institution of choice for both parents and students. Montego Bay High School has not only distin- guished itself in the field of academics, but has also been as a top performer in the arts, in sports and other extracurricular activities. I am looking forward to seeing the outstanding contributions which the school will continue to make as Jamaica joins the world in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. I want to use the oppor- tunity to encourage members of the school’s community to continue to blaze the trail in keeping Montego Bay High School for Girls among the top educational institutions in St James and Jamaica. Again, the St James Municipal Corporation congratulates Montego Bay High School for Girls on its eight and a half decades of building great minds of young ladies from across the parish. ‘Esse non videri’ … ‘To be, not to seem’!!!! LEEROYWILLIAMS Mayor of Montego Bay This journey would not have been possible without the contribution of those charged with the leadership and the unbreakable relationship and support rendered by the board, parents and the alumnae.
