Montego Bay High School
NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2020 3 MONTEGO BAY HIGH SCHOOL 85TH ANNIVERSARY A S WE celebrate 85 years of existence, I am pleased that we have been walking the walk as our motto, ‘EsseNonVideri’ , implies. Eighty-five years of existence means that we have a rich tra- dition to uphold, yet we must strike a balance by embracing and adapting to new ideas and practices to remain relevant and guarantee that our girls are well prepared for the 21st century. This is being achieved by the qualified and enthusiastic staff (quite a number of whom are past students) who have been working assiduously to ensure that the girls are well prepared academically, socially, spiritually and psychologically. The school remains an equal-oppor- tunity institution as we serve girls from all areas of St James and surrounding parishes, as far west as Savanna-la-Mar in Westmoreland and as far east as Discovery Bay in St Ann. The girls continue to excel in many facets, with academics continuing to be a beacon. Our annual CXC performance usually features many subjects with 100 per cent pass rates, and it was no different this year. Our 800-plus student body is constantly competing in sports and co-curricular activities (more than 30), and not just competing, but winning. We have been all-island tennis champions for the past six years and we are a force to be reck- oned with in swimming. The medals and trophies keep piling up in JCDC’s dance, music and speech competitions, 4-H and in too many other areas to list. More recently, we have made some im- provements to our aged infrastructure. A three-classroom block was constructed by Food For The Poor and the science labs were refurbished. Our multipurpose court was resurfaced, the car park expanded and surfaced, as well as the wireless network PLEASE SEE BALANCE , 6
