Montego Bay High School

NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2020 6 MONTEGO BAY HIGH SCHOOL 85TH ANNIVERSARY I T IS a great pleasure for me to convey my heartiest congratula- tions toMontego Bay High School (MBHS) for 85 meaningful years of a purpose-driven mission in the year of our Lord 2020. To the board of directors, all members of staff, the alumnae, present students and to all others associated with this insti- tution, I am pleased to be a part of this remarkable occasion. The school community as a whole conforms to the belief that it truly takes a village to raise our children. ‘Esse non videri’ (To be and not to seem). With all its glory, grandeur and goodwill to its credit, MBHS continues to exude excellent per- formance in academics and is one of the most outstanding educa- tional institutions in Jamaica. It is dedicated to the mis- sion of imparting quality education to young women so as to put them on a firm foundation to become model citizens. Parents and guardians will always have a stronger sense of purpose and re- sponsibility to promote inner moral compass and to help prepare our children for the unknown future. This evolving world of diverse democracies and unpredictable challenges has sought and forced responsible changes to which Montego Bay High School adapts accordingly. This is due mainly to the untiring efforts of the board members, aca- demic and ancillary staff, alumnae, parent-teacher association and the business community. Thank you for being an essential part of the devel- opment and success of the school. SONIA BLAGROVE MBHS Parent-Teacher Association president built out for students to access the Internet in a safe environment. Major beautification of the grounds and recycling activities have started and are intended to be on-going. Our past students continue to excel in all aspects of society. They are leaders in business, the tourism industry, the justice system, gov- ernment, health, and science and technology. The many chapters of the Past Students Association (PSA) are strong; always seeking out ways to contribute to their alma mater , especially as it relates to the welfare of our most financially vulnerable students. With five more years of accomplishments under our belt, I mustthanktheBoardofManagement, led by Myrtle Dwyer; the Member of Parliament, Mr Heroy Clarke; the Regional Director, Dr Michele Pinnock; and the staff of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information Region 4, the many chapters of the PSA, and the parents. Special thanks to thehard-workingacademic, admin- istrative and support staff who have made the achievements possible by their day-to-day efforts. The period since March 2020 has certainly made our lives more diffi- cult but we remain undaunted by the circumstances. Together we will continue to rise, together we will continue to conquer, and together we will continue to achieve. GAIRY POWELL Principal BALANCE CONTINUED FROM 3
