NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2020 7 MONTEGO BAY HIGH SCHOOL 85TH ANNIVERSARY “There are not any shortcuts to any place worth going.” Beverly Sills I T HAS been rightly said that the MontegoBayHighSchool forGirls is not only an institutionbut it is a leg- acy, and I am, alongwithmanyothers, a living testament to this legacy. I am among scores of students who have hadtheopportunitytobetransformed fromquiet younggirls intopoisedand influential young ladies. This seasoning process began the moment we proudly attired ourselves in the famous grey and white. On the dayof our arrival, surroundedbyunfa- miliar faces, we began a journey that hasresultedinlong-lastingfriendships andeternalgratitude.Throughoutthis journey, wefacedmanygruellingtests butbyGod’sgrace, thewiseleadership of our untiringprincipals andstaff and the sisterhood shared between past andpresentstudents, weachievedthe improbablewithgreat poise. This Beacon on the Hill has stood the test of time and its undying flame serves as a light to those who have the privilege of gracing its rep- utable halls. Being a student of this institution for more than six years has not only brought me closer to realising my full potential but has also given me countless opportuni- ties to serve as a positive influence on hundreds of young ladies. With its rich tradition and culture, I am confident that the Montego Bay High School will carry on the legacy of giving wings to the po- tential of its students so they may reach the pinnacle of success.
