Montego Bay High School
NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2020 9 MONTEGO BAY HIGH SCHOOL 85TH ANNIVERSARY O N BEHALF of the MBHS Alumnae Diaspora, I send warm greetings and con- gratulations on the 85th anniversary of our great almamater, Montego Bay High School for Girls. Today we are celebrating the legacy of this great institution’s former students, educators, admin- istrative and custodial staff, whose significant contributions have been the driving force behind the suc- cess of the Montego Bay High,‘The Beacon on the Hill’. As we virtually celebrate this ex- traordinary milestone, I reflect on the contributions and impact made by our alumnae volunteers. They have paved the way by enthusiasti- cally sustaining and surpassing the goals set for their mission. I see at first hand the passion they share and how they collaboratively com- bine forces and ideas to provide the essential resources for the students and staff they serve. The members of the international alumnae have for 10 years kept the ‘school spirit’ alive. I celebrate their resilience and the vital role they play in the legacy and stellar repu- tation of Montego Bay High School. Their pride, passion and grace are unmatched. The school’s record of excellence in academics, sports, leadership, and extracurricular activities began with its students and continues with its alumnae giv- ing back priceless time and talents with love. I am proud to honour the late Ms Pauline Chambers, the matriarch of our alumnae family. Her legacy will continue as we emulate her excep- tional talents. Thanks to all the businesses, fam- ily and friends who continue to sup- port all our fundraising endeavours. You are indeed our partners and we celebrate you, too, this 85th anniversary. KAREN MORRIS-CLARKE International Alumnae of MBHS The members of the international alumnae have for 10 years kept the ‘school spirit’ alive. I am delighted to extend warm congratulations to Montego Bay High School on the celebration of its 85th Anniversary. I celebrate this noble institution which has been educating and molding wonderful women of distinction since 1935. In the same spirit, I also congratulate the recipients of the 2020 Nellie Taylor Annual Educational Award; Jahnae Belvitt, Marissa Malcolm, Devanae Stone, and Leonie Campbell. Miss Merlene Mullings established this fund in 2011 in honor and loving memory of her mother, Nellie Taylor. Ms. Nellie was a vendor at the Chetwood Primary School in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
