These students are en- couraged to save from their salaries to pay for their college tuition, while benefiting from on-the-work expe- rience provided by the credit union. SPORTS – NETBALL Many years ago, with the support of the Institute of Sports, the credit union developed the PCCU Annual Netball Competition. It allows teams across the parish to participate and compete for the prestigious PCCU Trophy, along with other cash prizes. Because of the exponential growth in this competition, we had to develop two distinct categories, namely, Division 1 for professionals, and Division 2 for amateurs. The euphoria displayed by both players and spectators is unmatched by many other competitions within the parish. FEMALE CRICKET The Portland Co-operative Credit Union female cricket competition is another exciting and rewarding journey. The ladies made a request for sponsorship through their var- ious community clubs and were successful in securing an initial sponsorship of $50,000. This grew over the years and annual spon- sorship now stands at $1 million. The competition does not only pro- vide entertainment for the country, but it is one of the nurseries from which national female cricketers are selected.
