Page 14 Sunday July 4, 2021 SCENES Peter Brown Broadcast technician, Radio Department Peter has been with Radio Jamaica since 1997. His job entails studio recordings, outside broadcasts, repairs to equipment, and if there is a problem in the studio, he might be called on to troubleshoot. According to Peter, the most intense job he worked on was the Michael Manley funeral, where he was the technical producer and on which there were four outside broadcast units working. Peter notes: “Like any family, there are ups and downs, but mostly, it has been a very positive experience. I will never ever leave for any other media house.” Earl Higgins Senior Technician Earl is one of the people who works quietly in the background at Multimedia Jamaica Ltd. to ensure that companies that contract for background music are properly serviced. He also serves as an audio technician and works from time to time on outside broadcasts for Radio Jamaica. Daniel Thompson Presenter Daniel has been at Radio Jamaica for more than 23 years and in that time has worked virtually every time slot for every day of the week. For the past six years, he has been with the Hotline programme, which involves, taking care of the technical duties, ensuring that the levels are okay on the console and on commercials, reading headlines every hour on the hour, and ensuring that breaks and time signals are on time. Among the highlights of his career are live outside broadcasts in New York City and Birmingham, U.K. BEHIND THE Rohan Hibbert Marketing, Promotions Assistant Rohan started at Radio Jamaica in 2003. He is responsible for the set-up of all branding materials on location regardless of the nature of the event. That includes outside broadcasts, promotional events, special events, and events at which Radio Jamaica is a sponsor. Rohan effuses: “The company is solid, with good management and good co-workers who are very helpful and make me willing to get out of bed before day to ensure that everything is in place.” Edward ‘Eddy’ Batson Background Music and Audio- Visual Technician Edward has been at Radio Jamaica for 17 years, the last 14 of which as a staff member of the Multimedia Jamaica team. In that time, he has worked on audio-visual presentations within the Group and for external clients, preparing screens and audio for the AGM of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group and events for Grace Kennedy and other corporate clients. He considers his job to be exciting and rewarding. Many long-standing members of the Radio Jamaica team have worked for years in the background without much public acknowledgement.
