Radio Jamaica Celebrating 70 Years
Continuing the Morning Legacy Paula-Anne Porter Jones first made her presence known to the Jamaican public on the CPTC- produced teen programme Rappin , which she co-hosted with Lisa Hanna, who subsequently became Miss World and a Jamaican Minister of Culture. Paula-Anne and Lisa exhibited great chemistry, and Paula-Anne’s maturity as co-host of the programme made her an instant choice as emcee of popular shows, including the Miss Jamaica World Pageant. In 1994, Paula-Anne joined the FAME 95FM family and became an instant sensation working alongside iconic presenters including Norma Brown-Bell and François St Juste. For the next 13 years, Paula-Anne became the identity of FAME 95FM as Brown-Bell and St. Juste moved on to other areas. In 2007, Paula-Anne made another important switch. In that year the Dorraine Samuels and Alan Magnus morning partnership ended. A replacement was needed. Paula-Anne took that job and has been working on what is now Sunny Side Up ever since. Paula-Anne, who is also an educator who lectures in public speaking and communication, has a deep and abiding love for sport and fitness and has been part of the volleyball fraternity for many years. Interestingly, her daughter, Aiko Jones, was a recipient of the 2017 VMBS Y.O.U.T.H. Awards at the National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards for her achievement in volleyball and the discus throw. Paula-Anne Porter Jones’ ability to engage the public, her outstanding diction, and mellifluous voice make her a stand-out on radio. She continues the legacy established by legendary female broadcasters including Dottie Dean, Marie Garth, Erica Allen, and Dorraine Samuels. Paula-Anne Porter Jones Page 18 Sunday July 4, 2021
