Radio Jamaica Celebrating 70 Years
Sunday July 4, 2021 Page 49 offered insights into outside broadcasting for television: “As far as outside broadcasting for television is concerned, we have moved from SD, standard digital, to HD, high definition. We now have what can be considered the state-of-the-art truck for outside broadcasting, the only expanding outside broadcast truck in the English-speaking Caribbean. This is what they use all over the First World, and it opens up into a wider format once you have set up, giving you a total capacity inside for 24 persons to work. It provides HD 5.1 surround sound and can accommodate 22-23 production personnel operating in a comfortable air-conditioned environment. It has four channels of graphics and a separate audio booth. The infrastructure of the truck can take up to 20 cameras. “So advanced is this outside broadcast truck that it is actually twice as powerful as the master-control studio at TVJ’s Broadcasting House home. If something goes wrong at master control, we could literally operate TVJ out of the truck if we needed to. On occasion when master control might have an issue, we move the operation to Studio A, which is right beside master control, and we could just as readily move it to the truck. This truck allows us to compete on the world stage and to produce world-class outside broadcasts of events such as Champs and Grand Gala. The quality of these events has been raised because of our new-found technical ability.” Congratulations on 70 years of educating, informing and entertaining Jamaica continued from page 48
