The now-retired Olympian attended the Waldensia Primary School and William Knibb Memorial High School in the parish and the University of Technology in Kingston. Bolt became the only sprinter to win Olympic 100m and 200m titles at three consecutive Olympics - in 2008, 2012 and 2016. He also won two 4×100 relay goldmed- als and went on to gain worldwide fame for his double sprint victory in world-record times at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, whichmade him the first person to hold both records since fully automatic time became mandatory. This Trelawny native has been dubbed ‘the fastest man alive’after winning three gold medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, and becoming the first man in Olympic history to win both the 100- and 200-metre races in record times. Bolt also won three Olympic gold medals at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, where he notched an Olympic-record time of 9.63 seconds in the 100 metres, making him the first man in history to set three world records in Olympic competition. Bolt’s achievement as a native of Trelawny on the world stage has helped to elevate the parish to the point that when you mention the name Trelawny, im- mediately, Usain Bolt also comes to mind. His iconic magical reach is expected to become stronger when a statue in his honour is unveiled in Water Square, Falmouth. That activity is scheduled to take place before the end of this year and will come as an additional attraction to the parish, which is now celebrating its existence and achievement of the last two and a half centuries. A statue in Usain Bolt’s honour is to be erected in Water Square, Falmouth.
