NAME OF FEATURE | THE GLEANER | SUNDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2020 14 TRELAWNY 250TH ANNIVERSARY VISION STATEMENT To be the premier local regulatory entity by engaging our stakehold- ers, engendering civic pride and encouraging consensus. MISSION STATEMENT To provide effective local govern- ance and enhance the development of the parish by providing efficient services and implementing practical policies. ROLES AND FUNCTIONS The Trelawny Municipal Corporation has two arms, the po- litical and the administrative. The political arm is made up of council- lors, headed by themayor, who is the chairman of the corporation and is responsible for determining policies. The administrative arm, is headed by a manager who advises and im- plements the policies of the council. The head of the administrative arm of the corporation is also secretary to the council, and, therefore, in former years, was called the secretaryman- ager.That positionwas later renamed to chief executive officer. The Municipal Corporation is empowered to make by-laws, reg- ulations, and rules for the good gov- ernance of the parish of Trelawny over which it has jurisdiction. Specific responsibilities of the cor- poration include: Developing, managing, andmain- taining infrastructure and public facilities such as parochial roads, water supplies, drains and gullies, parks, recreational centres, markets, abattoirs, pounds, cemeteries, trans- portation centres, public sanitary conveniences, and public beaches. Provision of local services such as poor relief, public cleansing, public health, and street lighting. Regulation powers in respect to building and planning approvals and development control, licens- ing of trades and businesses, street parking, control of public vending. Coordinating inter-agency collab- oration among non-governmental organisations, community-based or- ganisations, and government agen- cies that operate in the parish and are engaged in the delivery of local services or in local development. Support of national policies/ development programmes at the local level. Spearheading plans and initi- atives for the orderly, balanced, and sustainable development of the parish as a whole, and major towns in particular, and for boosting economic activity and local wealth creation within the parish. RECENT PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN/UNDERWAY • Kiosk Construction of kiosk/informa- tion booth. This was constructed on Seaboard Street and funded by TPDCo – Falmouth. • Bus sheds Ten derelict bus sheds were de- molished and replaced with new architectural style bus sheds along the north coast highway inTrelawny, which was funded by the TEF. The locations are as follows: Wiltshire Salt Marsh Bogue Gate Hague Rock Coopers Pen Coral Spring Refuge Carey Park (2) • Sanitary Convenience This was an existing sanitary convenience located at Seaboard Street that was renovated and ex- tended. Funding was provided by TPDCo. • Washing Down of Falmouth This was a maintenance pro- gramme for over a year, where the town centre was thoroughly washed and sanitised each month.
